“Smarter delivery is the key to sustainable logistics” Jeroen Gehlen on Wuunder GreenChoice

With the launch of GreenChoice, Wuunder is taking a major step towards sustainable, efficient and cost-effective logistics. Founder Jeroen Gehlen shares his vision for the future of parcel delivery, the role of technology and the impact of smart optimisation on the entire chain.

Wuunder recently secured a major investment to become more sustainable. What is the next step?

“Our mission has always been to make the logistics sector greener,” Jeroen proudly explains. “With this new investment, we can accelerate the development of technology that makes parcel delivery not only more sustainable, but also more efficient and cheaper. Wuunder GreenChoice is the best example of this: a smart engine that shows a consumer at checkout which day a parcel carrier is already in their area. This allows deliveries to be bundled by the carrier, delivery peaks to be spread out and routes to be optimised. In this way, we ensure fewer vans on the road, fewer kilometres driven and therefore lower emissions and lower costs for our customers.”

What makes GreenChoice unique compared to other solutions?

“Many parties focus on one aspect: either sustainability, costs or efficiency. GreenChoice combines these three pillars in one solution by starting smartly at the checkout. Here, customers can easily choose a sustainable delivery day – all they have to do is choose to postpone their delivery. This simple choice has a huge impact on the entire chain. In the warehouse, it ensures that we flatten peaks: most online orders are placed at the weekend and packed on Monday, which creates a peak in the warehouse on Monday and in deliveries on Tuesday. By consolidating deliveries intelligently and spreading the volume more evenly across the week, warehouses can work according to a more predictable and efficient process. For carriers, this means optimal utilisation of transport capacity: fewer empty kilometres, lower CO₂ emissions and more efficient routes. Customers see immediate results in their reports, their costs and in their customer satisfaction.”

Why does it have an impact on customer satisfaction?

“Consumers want control over their delivery time. Our own research shows that 39% of Dutch people think it is important to be able to choose their delivery day. And when customers are provided with that choice and indicate when they will be at home, delivery does indeed run much more smoothly: the number of successful first delivery attempts increases significantly. This is not only good for the recipient, but also for the carrier and the webshop. Fewer failed deliveries means fewer extra trips, lower CO₂ emissions and lower costs. What’s more, we see that 68% of consumers are willing to change their ordering behaviour if it helps the environment, for example by choosing a sustainable delivery day. By cleverly combining this freedom of choice with our technology, we are making the entire chain more efficient and sustainable, without compromising customer convenience.”

How does implementation work for retailers and carriers?

“The great thing is that GreenChoice integrates seamlessly into the existing Paazl checkout or via APIs. For our customers with a Paazl checkout, it’s a minimal adjustment, but the impact is huge. They save on operational costs and can offer their customers a truly green delivery option. For carriers, it means more efficient routes and higher load factors, which also improves their margins and ultimately their sustainability.

Why is this step so important right now?

The pressure on logistics is enormous: margins are under pressure, consumers are demanding sustainable choices and regulations are becoming stricter. At the same time, retailers want to differentiate themselves through their customer experience. With GreenChoice, we help companies meet all these requirements without compromising on service. In other words, we make it easy to be sustainable and efficient. By adding GreenChoice to the checkout, retailers may increase conversion by up to 10 percent.”

What is your personal motivation behind this innovation?

“I believe that technology is the key to real change in logistics. By using data intelligently, we can fundamentally improve the sector. I think it’s great to see that our customers can now take real steps towards a sustainable future. Together, we are making smart and sustainable logistics the norm.

With GreenChoice, Wuunder proves that sustainability, efficiency and cost savings can go hand in hand. The future of logistics is green, smart and scalable. And that future starts today.”
